Don’t Underestimate The Magic Number 3
If you’ve noticed around you, not only restricted to Internet Marketing, people like to put their presentations into 3 points, “3 common ways to make you…”, and many more. Is it because when we were young, schools always teach us “1,2,3″ first before moving beyond 3?
I don’t know the power of it but it seems like it works better other than the other one which will be number 7. Perhaps it has to do with the history of mankind, that will be a topic to huge for me to research on.
But I got a little bored and tried out searching over at Google to see what kind of results it would be showing.
At the point of typing these phrases into the blank space, I felt a little stupid. Anyway, when I do some searching over at Google, here is the result, I did it out of curiosity.
When I key in ‘3 ways’ without any close brackets to them, so it’s a general search
It gave me 53,300,000 results
291,000,000 for ‘4 ways’
80,600,000 for ‘2 ways’
39,100,000 for ‘5 ways’
I didn’t bother to try higher numbers, you can if you wish to.
Then I did an exact search, I put in the close brackets, so it looks like “3 ways”.
It gave me 9,350,000
2,150,000 for “4 ways”
1,630,000 for “2 ways”
3,270,000 for “5 ways”
When doing an exact search for it, more results were shown. I guess many people have created websites or having contents that have the phrase “3 ways” in them. This post will be one of them.
If you are an internet marketer and reading this post, ask yourself, have you created an article or blog post that starts with “3 ways”, “3 tips”, “3 methods” or whatever. I guess the answer will most likely be a ‘yes’.
Since people are more attracted into looking at stuff when they are presented in 3 points, I guess the magic number 3 will still continue to be used, not only in IM but almost everywhere.
